Clerel

Originally from Cameroon, Clerel nourished his taste for melody during his childhood with the rhythm of church hymns, local lullabies and French pop songs.

His family moved to the United States, giving him the opportunity to pursue a degree in chemistry in Ohio. It was there that he fell in love with the acoustic guitar and began to experiment with stage and composition between two lab sessions. A school visit to the Stax Museum in Memphis will mark a turning point in the life of the young music lover and will initiate his love affair with soul music, which immediately becomes an integral part of his musical expression.

Now based in Montreal, Clerel uses his influences and his poetic sensibility to create, in solo or in collaborations, vibrant songs that invite you to escape. His songs, whether performed in an alleyway or on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, are carried by an authentic and gripping voice, an evidence that will be put into light in the songs of his upcoming french EP, Interlude, scheduled for the end of July.
